Well for those who play a sport, injuries are everywhere out there. It can go from a minute sprain to an ultimate dislocation of a bone and so on. As sportsmen and women we need to know how to avoid these injuries. As most of us know, warming up and adhering to safety precautions will largely contribute to your cause of not getting injured. Having the proper nutrition and getting the right amount of stretching will protect you from those evil spells on the field. However, injuries are inevitable. So let me break down five of most common injuries that affect sports people.
Well, sprains are everywhere. You don’t really even have to do a sport to get somewhere sprained. Sometimes we even wake up with neck sprains. This happens when we stretch a ligament past their capacity to move. They cause the skin to swell and will hurt for a day or two. Rest, ice and compression will most of the time set it right. But in case it doesn’t it is best to go a professional specialist.
Again, these are so common that every one of us have gone through that pain at least twice in our lifetimes unless you have not moved about for the past decade. A strain is a result of an over worked muscle which results from an injury to tendons or muscle fibers. These too will make the area swollen and will hurt. Redness of skin may arise as well.
3. Knee injury.
This is when your knee cap repetitively brushes against your thigh bone. These can be pretty painful and is sure to keep you off the field for some time. Seeing a doctor is advised for these kinds of injuries. Also, when heeling you could try methods such as dry needling which is a helpful method of recovery.
4. Muscle tears.
This occurs due to a sudden pull in your muscles against its ordinary movement area. This is an advanced form of a sprain and most likely will cause you to scream in pain for a while. Sometimes people take this lightly and continue to play but it is highly disapproved by sports specialists.
5. Hamstring strain.
This is very common with football players, rowers and track and field athletes. They are constantly straining their hamstrings which makes it one of the most common injuries. This will prevent movement of your leg as it causes great pain and should be treated immediately.
However common these injuries are, preventative measures can be taken to minimize the vulnerability. It is in your hands that you follow safe play no matter how intense the game gets.
