If you’re an employee of an organizational member you may also pay just $15. (If you are a new member who joined after September 1, you already have 16-month membership that lasts until the end of 2004). FACILITY ASSESSMENTS — CHIA in December plans to assess the language services offered at two health facilities, a pilot project being funded by The California Endowment. One of the facilities to be assessed by CHIA and subcontractors Katharine Allen and Molina Health Plan is Pacific Hospital in Long Beach, a full-service acute care hospital that serves a diverse ethnic population. CHIA is also in discussions regarding participation by a network of Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) clinics in the Bay Area. The assessment itself will include interviews with interpreters and administrators and a review of policies and materials at the facilities. For CHIA, the goal of the pilot is to develop and refine the assessment tool, which is intended to recommend how facilities can make cost-effective improvements in their language services. CHIA PARTICIPATES IN NEW MEDIA EXPO — Former CHIA Vice President Terry Bautista represented the organization on November 18-19 at the New California Media’s Annual Expo and Awards in San Francisco. More than 2,000 attendees took part in the event, which is the country’s largest showcase for ethnic publishing, broadcast, and internet media. Bautista staffed the CHIA table at the event.
