Letter from Beverly Treumann,
CHIA President:
CHIA is the sole nonprofit organization in the state
that works to improve access to healthcare by supporting the
emerging healthcare interpreting profession. Many interpreters,
healthcare professionals, and language access advocates, upon
learning
about CHIA, recognize in our mission goals that they share. It's
this shared sense of purpose that keeps attracting members.
What does
CHIA do to keep you coming back?
-
Networking via
chapter activities, committees, and the annual conference;
-
Participation
in the development of interpreter standards and eventual
certification;
-
Linkage with
community organizations advocating on behalf of healthcare
interpreting and access issues with government, providers, and
the employers of interpreters;
-
News of
activities of related organizations;
-
Access to
up-to-date information on healthcare interpreting;
-
A newsletter
and website with interpreter resources;
-
And the
satisfaction of being a part of the developing healthcare
interpreting profession.
What does
your membership mean to CHIA?
Your member dues
and donations demonstrate that CHIA is a publicly
supported organization. Without public support, CHIA cannot call
itself a non-profit tax-exempt organization. Without tax-exempt
status, CHIA cannot seek support from foundations for its work.
Please join
or renew you membership in CHIA if you support our mission of
developing and promoting the healthcare interpreter profession;
advocating for culturally and linguistically appropriate services;
and providing education and training to healthcare professionals.
New
members joining CHIA now will receive a special 14 month
membership that will last through the end of 2004. Current members
will receive a letter in November asking you for your renewal.
You can also
help by making an additional personal tax-deductible contribution.
We believe that
you'll renew your membership promptly and help convince others to
join. Your active membership helps CHIA earn even greater support.
Thank you,
Beverly
Treumann
